A Great Day in Woodinville

Located just northeast of Seattle, Woodinville has become one of Washington’s premier wine destinations, home to dozens of tasting rooms representing wineries from across the state. Our day took us through three distinctly different experiences—each with its own personality, style, and approach to hospitality.

We had explored many different wineries over the years as we’ve visited Woodinville many, many times. This trip was targeted at three of our favorites as opposed to trying out new experiences.

Mark Ryan Winery

Our first stop brought us to Mark Ryan Winery. The tasting room immediately reflects the personality of its founder and the culture that surrounds it. Industrial architecture, reclaimed wood, exposed steel, and soaring ceilings create a contemporary setting unlike a traditional winery. Music plays an important role here, with concert posters decorating the walls and oversized Pearl Jam commemorative bottles displayed prominently throughout the space. The venue is in one of the newest developed areas in Woodinville, pretty much across the street from Chateau St. Michelle.

A beautifully restored vintage Vincent motorcycle serves as a centerpiece, reinforcing the winery’s creative, rebellious spirit. The entire space feels more like an art gallery, music venue, and wine destination combined into one experience.

Outside, guests gathered beneath umbrellas and string lights on the spacious patio. The courtyard offered the perfect setting to relax with a glass of wine while enjoying one of those rare Pacific Northwest summer afternoons when the sky seems impossibly blue and there is nowhere else you would rather be.

The wines were accompanied by a beautifully prepared selection of cheeses, olives, almonds, crackers, and fruit preserves. Rather than simply tasting wine, the experience became an exploration of how flavors interact and evolve. The setting encouraged conversation, reflection, and appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into every bottle.

Bayernmoor Cellars

From there we continued to Bayernmoor Cellars, where modern design and award-winning wines took center stage. Illuminated displays showcased medal-winning bottles while polished glassware stood ready for the next tasting flight. Marble accents, contemporary shelving, and intimate seating created an atmosphere that felt both luxurious and approachable.

Washington’s reputation for producing world-class wines was evident throughout the tasting. Rich reds demonstrated the concentration and structure that thrive in the state’s eastern vineyards, while elegant whites offered balance, freshness, and remarkable complexity.

Tsillan Cellars

Our last stop brought us to the refined elegance of Tsillan Cellars. Inspired by the atmosphere of the Italian countryside, the tasting room balances sophistication with comfort. Plush seating, warm lighting, floral arrangements, and carefully curated décor create a welcoming environment where guests are encouraged to slow down and enjoy the experience.

What makes Woodinville so compelling is the remarkable diversity found within a few walkable blocks. In a single afternoon, visitors can move from the energetic, music-infused culture of Mark Ryan to the polished sophistication of Bayernmoor and finally to the Tuscan-inspired elegance of Tsillan Cellars.

For wine lovers in the Pacific Northwest, Woodinville isn’t simply a place to taste wine. It’s a place to spend an afternoon, reconnect with favorite wineries, and savor the experience one glass at a time. By the end of the day, what stood out most was not only the quality of the wines, but how each stop contributed its own distinct character to a truly great day in Woodinville.
